In the beginning

Last night after work I stopped at the local grocery and did the week's shopping. I had a pretty good sized list since we've decided to change the way we eat and I needed to load up the pantry. Given the size of the bill and the amount of things I had to buy, I made it through the store rather quickly and was home sooner than Himself anticipated.

When he asked why I was so quick I told him it was because I mostly shopped the perimeter. Huh? That's where the fresh, non-prepared foods – vegetables, fruit, meats, dairy - are located. I only went down a couple of aisles to pick up brown rice, flour, salt, water, and dog food.

You see, we've decided we don't like the way we look and feel and we need to do something about it, now. We have both been reading a lot lately on our options. What seems to be our best option is, at least for now, modified versions of the Real Food and Paleo diets. I don't think either of us is ready to jump into one or the other of the diets completely at first. We'll ease into it. We'll find out what works best for us and what doesn't; what we're willing to give up and what we just can't live without.

This is the place I'll share what we've learned. And hopefully, it lasts longer than my photo blog!
